I have a family of 4….3 hours alway from home. I was like ok when can we check in then? His response was seriously idk maybe 1-2 hours! That would put us at 630pm. Which I was confused cause check out for everyone was 11am that morning and it’s now 430pm. I’d called around 2 just to see we can check in early traveling from NE (3 hours drive) & they is told us no all room were being clean for 4pm check-in I said ok thanks.took the kids swimming at ocean of fun till 4pm and drove over to go check in just to be told I couldn’t check in cause all the rooms was still being clean. 5-6 min drive & plus it will give me & my wife something to do later in the evening. I’ll give it a 1 star book my family vacation here in Kansas to take my kids to world of fun & saw the ****** was only. No idea why the GM gave these odd directions is it so we don’t come back again? A disappointing and gross experience and not really sure this hotel is worth the value that is placed on it. The concierge service was OK but on the day of discharge after texting in the morning about extending the checkout time, I texted about getting help for getting our bags to our car and never got a response, so I contacted the front desk myself. In their embarrassment, they comped us one night. We got rid of those and called the front desk to let them know about this. When going to bed, we noticed that there was dried blood on one of the pillowcases, along with an old stain on the comforter. Why we were given these bizarre directions, we have no idea. We were surprised by this, and soon realized that if we just take the elevator right by our room straight down, we were at the elevators right next to the lobby, where we were checked in. He told us that to get to our room, we should go outside to the parking garage elevators, go to the fourth floor, cross over to other elevators to get to the sixth floor where our room was located. The GM Jeff checked us in and noted that we have been upgraded in our room, though it appeared to be in the room I booked online. I booked this hotel as I have not stayed here previously and wanted to try it out. CONS - While Chaz has a certain je ne sais quoi at night, it's a little dreary at breakfast time Live music in a small setting can sometimes be annoying, but these guys were enjoyable, and the room was into it - The basic five requirements were met: The room was clean. This time, they had a musical duo (two older gentleman). Last time, a guy sat at the bar with his dog. It's quirky, like the rest of the property. I'd requested a quiet room via the chat function, and they assigned me a room at the end of the hallway - They recycle, and have moved away from small plastic bottles to large refillable bottles - Pretty views from the top floors - I always have a drink and its charmingly-named neighborhood restaurant/bar, Chaz. I collected Bonvoy points - I received a complimentary upgrade to a suite. David has been helping me with my bags for 17 years, and I understand that Bob has also been there that long. There are shops, restaurants, museums, and beautiful houses within walking distance - Friendly staff. It has a personality, and feels somewhat European - Great location. PROS - The hotel has that unique, kind-of-eccentric feel to it that I've found in some Autograph hotels. I almost always stay at The Raphael Hotel. I've been coming to KC about every other year or so, for approximately 20 years, for work.
